Tea has a rich and ancient history that began in China over 4,000 years ago. According to legend, it was discovered by Emperor Shen Nong in 2737 BCE when tea leaves accidentally fell into his boiling water. Originally used as a medicinal drink, tea became a daily staple during China’s Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE) and spread to neighboring countries like Japan and Korea.
By the 16th century, tea reached Europe through Portuguese and Dutch traders, quickly gaining popularity. The British embraced it in the 17th century, eventually introducing large-scale tea cultivation to India and Sri Lanka through colonization.
Today, tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world, with countless varieties and cultural traditions behind every cup. 🍵
