DESCRIPTION:OBN Christmas Lecture – 12 December\, Oxford  \nInto the deep: Biodiscovery in the world’s largest and least explored ecosystem \nPresented by Dr Adrian Glover\, Merit Researcher\, Natural History Museum.​ \nWe are delighted that Dr Adrian Glover\, Merit Researcher at the Natural History Museum will be presenting the OBN Christmas Lecture this year\, delivered on 12 December at Somerville College in Oxford. \n  \nDr Glover leads the Deep-Sea Systematics and Ecology Group at the Natural History Museum (NHM)\, London\, an active research group dedicated to the highest-quality deep-ocean and polar research. \n  \nDuring the lecture\, entitled\, ‘Into the deep: Biodiscovery in the world’s largest and least explored ecosystem’\,  Dr Glover will share insight into how the depths of the oceans hold the secret to understanding the evolution of all life on our planet\, and how the chemistry and biology revealed has changed our understanding of where complex life can exist. \nIn recent years\, research has revealed that the vast\, swirling biochemical laboratory that is our ocean is filled with new types of chemicals and microbes that have the potential to revolutionise therapeutics. \nDr Glover will also address how in order secure our sustainable development\, humans must ensure the needs of discovery and use do not jeopardise the protection of our ocean resources – a new challenge for the 21st century.  \n  \nProgramme for the evening: \n18.00 – 18.30 Guest Arrival \n18.30 – 18.35 Welcome by Stuart Rose\, CEO of OBN \n18.35 – 19.35 Lecture and Audience Questions with Dr Adrian Glover \n19.35 – 21.30 Christmas Drinks\, Nibbles and Networking \n  \n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Adrian Glover\nMerit Researcher\, Principal Investigator for Deep-Sea Systematics and Ecology Research Group at Natural History Museum
