Hear about their personal journeys in medicine and research\, and learn about the groundbreaking work they’re doing to transform patient care. Don’t miss this opportunity to be inspired by the brilliant women at Sunnybrook who are leading the way in the brain sciences. \nThe session will include a Q&A period for our experts to answer your questions. Questions can be submitted ahead of time or during the event and will be answered as time permits. \nWomen in the Brain Sciences \nThursday\, March 7\, 2023 \n6:00 – 7:00pm \nPanelists: \n\nDr. Isabelle Aubert – Senior Scientist\n\nDr. Aubert is a Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Brain Repair and Regeneration. Her lab\, the Brain Repair Group\, focuses on developing therapies to stop neurodegeneration and promote regeneration\, particularly related to Alzheimer disease. Her approaches include gene therapy\, immunotherapy\, regenerative therapeutics\, and non-invasive delivery to the brain using MRI-guided focused ultrasound. \n\nDr. Sandra Black – Scientific Director\, Dr. Sandra Black Centre for Brain Resilience and Recovery\n\nDr. Black is an internationally renowned cognitive and stoke neurologist and Director of the Dr. Sandra Black Centre for Brain Resilience and Recovery at Sunnybrook. For over 30 years\, she has been actively engaged in research and clinical trials using neuroimaging\, clinical measures\, genetics\, and neuropathology to study brain-behavior relationships in dementia. In 2022\, she was ranked one of the highest cited women scientists in Canada and the world. \n\nDr. Jennifer Rabin – Neuropsychology Lead\, Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation\n\nDr. Rabin is a clinical neuropsychologist and a scientist in the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Research Program at Sunnybrook. As the Neuropsychology Lead\, Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation\, her research explores cognitive\, behavioural\, and psychosocial changes associated with novel neuromodulation strategies\, including low-intensity focused ultrasound (FUS) to open the blood-brain barrier in patients with Alzheimer’s disease\, and high-intensity FUS to treat severe psychiatric and neurological conditions\, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder\, major depressive disorder\, and essential tremor. \n\nDr. Amy Yu – Neurologist and Clinician Scientist\n\nDr. Yu is a stoke neurologist and clinician scientist within the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Research Program. Her research focuses on measuring\, monitoring\, and improving stroke care in the population. Recognized as a distinguished new investigator\, she has received several notable awards\, including the Heart and Stroke Henry J. M. Barnett Scholarship and the American Academy of Neurology Michael S. Pessin Stroke Leadership Prize. \nModerator: \n\nChristina Topp – Vice President\, Marketing & Community Engagement\, Sunnybrook Foundation\n\nChristina provides leadership to Sunnybrook Foundation’s marketing\, events and community giving portfolios. Together\, these teams assist Sunnybrook in its mission to invent the future of health care by raising awareness of the work the Hospital and inspiring community support and giving.
