Whether you’re a hardcore matcha fan\, a chai addict\, or just in it for the free samples\, this is your kind of vibe. \n🗓️ Date: 21st May 2025📍 Location: G_R Kitchen \nTea has a rich and ancient history that began in China over 4\,000 years ago. According to legend\, it was discovered by Emperor Shen Nong in 2737 BCE when tea leaves accidentally fell into his boiling water. Originally used as a medicinal drink\, tea became a daily staple during China’s Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE) and spread to neighboring countries like Japan and Korea. \nBy the 16th century\, tea reached Europe through Portuguese and Dutch traders\, quickly gaining popularity. The British embraced it in the 17th century\, eventually introducing large-scale tea cultivation to India and Sri Lanka through colonization. \nToday\, tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world\, with countless varieties and cultural traditions behind every cup. 🍵 \nFree to join. SUMMARY:St. Patricks Day at G_R
DESCRIPTION:Bring out your green! \nSt. Patrick’s Day—observed every March 17—is packed with parades\, good luck charms\, and all things green. The event started as a religious holiday\, but over time it’s become a celebration of Irish culture. \nSt. Patrick might be the patron saint of Ireland—but he didn’t always live in Ireland. Patrick was born in Britain in the fourth century and didn’t arrive in Ireland until he was 16 years old\, when he was sent to work in the country. \nAfter he arrived\, Patrick became interested in Christianity and started teaching others about the religion. He is said to have converted many of the country’s residents to Christians\, and now St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on the day Patrick supposedly died. \n  \nMYTHS BUSTED\nSt. Patrick was a real person\, but some of the traditions associated with him and the holiday are actually myths. For instance\, you’ll often see the four-leaf clover on St. Patrick’s Day. However\, according to legend\, Patrick used a three-leaf clover\, or shamrock\, as part of his teachings. Even though it’s possible for a shamrock to grow a fourth leaf\, a four-leaf clover is just considered a symbol of good luck. \nAnother legend says that Patrick chased all the snakes out of Ireland. The problem? These creatures never actually lived in the country. In fact many animals found throughout Europe and North America don’t live on the island of Ireland—the ocean keeps the critters away. \n  \nSo\, with all this have being said\, join us for a GREEN afternoon in the Grassroots kitchen from 4pm\, where we will celebrate it accordingly. \nWe will have some snacks\, drinks and board games and hopefully many of us will be dressed up in GREEEEN! \n  \nAll members are welcome! \n  \nSee you all there 🙂 \n  \nG_R team

SUMMARY:Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:When? 4th of March\nWhere ? G_R Kitchen\nTime ? 9am-5pm\n  \nWhat is Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day?\nShrove Tuesday\, often referred to as Pancake Day\, is a Christian tradition that marks the day before the start of Lent. It’s a day of preparation and feasting before the 40-day period of fasting and reflection leading up to Easter. On this day\, many people indulge in pancakes as a way to use up rich and indulgent ingredients like eggs\, milk\, and sugar before the fasting period begins. \nWhen is Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day?\nShrove Tuesday falls on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday\, which varies from year to year. In 2025\, Shrove Tuesday will be celebrated on March 4th. The date changes each year based on the date of Easter\, which is determined by the lunar calendar. \nHow to Celebrate Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day\nThere are various ways to celebrate Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day\, but the most popular tradition is\, of course\, making and enjoying pancakes. Here’s how you can celebrate this delicious holiday: \n\nPancake Breakfast: Start your day with a hearty pancake breakfast. You can make traditional thin crepe-style pancakes or fluffy American-style pancakes\, depending on your preference.\nPancake Toppings: Get creative with your pancake toppings. Classic choices include maple syrup\, fresh fruit\, whipped cream\, and chocolate chips. Some also enjoy savory pancakes with ingredients like cheese and bacon.\nPancake Parties: Host a pancake party or potluck with friends and family. Everyone can bring their favorite pancake toppings\, and you can have a pancake cook-off to see who makes the best stack!\nCharity Pancake Races: In some regions\, you might find charity pancake races where participants race while flipping pancakes in a frying pan. It’s a fun and quirky tradition!\nAttend Church Services: Many churches hold special services and pancake breakfasts on Shrove Tuesday as a way for the community to come together before the solemnity of Lent.\n\nHistory of Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day\nThe name “Shrove Tuesday” comes from the word “shrive\,” which means to confess one’s sins and receive absolution from a priest. It’s a day for Christians to prepare their hearts and souls for the penitential season of Lent. The tradition of making pancakes on this day is believed to have originated in medieval England as a way to use up ingredients like eggs\, milk\, and sugar before Lenten fasting began. \nToday\, Shrove Tuesday has become a secular celebration enjoyed by people of all backgrounds\, with a primary focus on the joy of pancake indulgence. \nShrove Tuesday\, known as Pancake Day in many parts of the world\, is a delightful occasion to gather with loved ones\, savour delicious pancakes\, and embrace the spirit of celebration before the solemnity of Lent. Whether you’re flipping pancakes in a race or savouring a stack at home\, Shrove Tuesday is a day to indulge in this tasty tradition. \n  \nIf all this sounds tasty enough\, join us on the day in the Grassroots kitchen where we will have plenty of pancakes for all members \, with loads of toppings and more! \n  \nSee you all there 🙂 \n  \nG_R team

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity Awareness Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Event Start Time \n26/02/2025 – 11:00 \n  \nEvent End Time \n26/02/2025 – 12:00 \n  \nVenue \nBarclays Oxford Eagle Lab\, Wood Centre For Innovation Stansfeld Park\, Quarry Rd\, Oxford\, OX3 8SB \n  \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/embracing-neurodiversity-the-power-of-neuro-inclusive-workplaces-tickets-1144112604599 \n  \nThis workshop will explore neurodiversity as the natural variation in how human brains function. \n  \nIn today’s rapidly changing workplace\, embracing neurodiversity is more than an ethical choice— it’s a strategic advantage. \n  \nThis workshop will explore neurodiversity as the natural variation in how human brains function and delve into conditions like autism\, ADHD\, and dyslexia\, which contribute unique strengths and skills to any organization. \n  \nParticipants will discover how tapping into diverse perspectives\, thinking styles\, and problem-solving approaches can drive innovation\, enhance creativity\, and boost overall productivity. To cultivate a truly inclusive and dynamic work environment\, organizations must move beyond good intentions to implement tangible strategies. \n  \nThis includes creating reasonable accommodations such as flexible work schedules\, sensory-friendly spaces\, and clear communication practices. These measures are essential for supporting neurodivergent employees and fostering a workplace culture where everyone can thrive. Through neurodiversity training and awareness\, organizations can adopt neuro-affirming practices that break down stereotypes and reduce stigma. \n  \nThese initiatives empower neurodivergent individuals to contribute their full potential without fear of judgment or discrimination\, enriching the workplace with unique insights and bolstering team success \n  \nWe do hope you can join us on 26th February for this empowering\, interactive workshop. SUMMARY:World Cancer Day Awareness
DESCRIPTION:World Cancer Day is an international day observed every 4 February to raise awareness about cancer\, encourage its prevention\, and mobilise action to address the global cancer epidemic.\n  \n\n\n\nThe day is led by the  Union for International Cancer Control  (UICC) and was established in the year 2000. \nBy catalysing personal\, collective and government action\, we are all working together to reimagine a world where millions of cancer deaths are prevented and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equitable for all no matter who you are and where you live.   \nEach year\, hundreds of activities and events take place around the world\, gathering communities\, organisations and individuals in schools\, businesses\, hospitals\, marketplaces\, parks\, community halls\, places of worship – in the streets and online – acting as a powerful reminder  that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer. \n  \nUICC runs World Cancer Day campaigns in three-year cycles to allow for a deeper exploration of a particular theme and achieve greater impact.  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe World Cancer Day theme 2025-2027\, “United by Unique” places people at the centre of care and explores new ways of making a difference.    \nCancer is more than just a medical diagnosis—it’s a deeply personal matter. Behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story – stories of grief\, pain\, healing\, resilience\, love and more.  \n  \nThat’s why a people-centred approach to cancer care that fully integrates each individual’s unique needs\, with compassion and empathy\, leads to the best health outcomes.  \nEvery experience with cancer is unique and it will take all of us\, united\, to create a world where we look beyond the disease and see the person before the patient. A world where the needs of people and communities are at the centre of health systems. \nWe are spreading awareness to all our members about this special day and for more information about this day \, we recommend to see more at : https://www.worldcancerday.org/about

SUMMARY:NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY in Grassroots
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY\nCelebrating the cake more people favor. And more often than not\, we celebrate our special occasions like anniversaries\, birthdays and weddings with cake. Why not enjoy chocolate cake on January 27th every year? \n#ChocolateCakeDay\nAll over the world\, chocolate was consumed primarily as a beverage until the 1830s or 40s. Chocolate cakes\, as we think of them today\, mostly did not exist then.  According to the Dover Post\, the chocolate cake was born in 1765 when a doctor and a chocolate maker teamed up in an old mill.  They ground up cocoa beans between huge millstones to make a thick syrup. The liquid was poured into molds shaped like cakes\, which were meant to be transformed into a beverage.  A popular Philadelphia cookbook author\, Eliza Leslie\, published the earliest chocolate cake recipe in 1847 in The Lady’s Receipt Book.  Unlike chocolate cakes we know today\, this recipe used chopped chocolate.  Other cooks of the time such as Sarah Tyson Rorer and Maria Parloa all made contributions to the development of the chocolate cake and were prolific authors of cookbooks. \nAll members are free to join us in the kitchen area at lunchtime\, where we will be sharing different sorts of chocolate cakes! \n#ChocolateCakeDay  \nAll the best\, \nGR team
