SUMMARY:Trinity college panel discussion
DESCRIPTION:To be apart of World Oceans day\, Trinity college are holding a panel discussion about how we should rebuild the connection between the ocean and society. \nBridging the divide between our oceans & society: Why should we care? \nPanel Summary & Aims: \nThe oceans are a mystery\, as foreign to us as outer space but crucially intertwined with all life on Earth\, playing a pivotal role in climate regulation and food production. Yet there has long been a divide between humans and the world beneath the sea surface — a chasm that is not merely physical\, but emotional and psychological as well. This perceived distance between our existence and the oceans has made urgent policy decisions — such as the protection of ocean ecosystems and the regulation of fishing practices — less attainable\, especially when the consequences are often unknown to the public. How can members of the scientific community\, along with policymakers and media professionals committed to exploring and understanding the importance of our oceans\, help to bridge that gap in perception? To make the ocean deep as tangible as our gardens and forests? \nJoin us as we discuss these and other questions related to better caring for our marine environments. \nThis session is free and open to all. In-person and online tickets available.

SUMMARY:The Science of ADHD: Navigating Neurodiversity
DESCRIPTION:A simple scroll through Instagram or TikTok and you’ll be left questioning: do I have ADHD? The rise in ADHD in adults is undeniable. But only over the last decade has ADHD been formally recognised in the UK. It has been suggested that about 1.5 million adults in the UK have ADHD but only 120\,000 have been diagnosed. Waiting times to access an adult ADHD specialist clinic in the NHS can be up to 2 years or more. It’s hard to find support and help. \nFrom dopamine dips\, hits\, and myths\, how ADHD can present differently in women than men\, and the neuroscience of neurodiversity; this talk is designed to give you an increased awareness and understanding of an ADHD brain. It will include advice and tips on how to navigate a neurotypical world as a neurodivergent person. \nThis talk will also highlight how society is demanding change. People are increasingly recognising and accepting neurodiversity and self-defining as neurodivergent. Surely\, it’s time for the world to alter neurotypical societal standards as they are fast becoming outdated. \nDoors open at 6.45 pm\, talk starts at 7.30 pm – come down early to grab a good seat!

SUMMARY:Get started with Quantum Computing: hands-on workshop with Classiq
DESCRIPTION:Classiq is a quantum software company that has a leading quantum algorithms development platform. Classiq allows you to generate optimized quantum circuits\, visualize and analyze them interactively\, and execute them on real hardware with only 3 simple clicks! \nAlthough we were led to think that a quantum algorithm is synonymous with a quantum circuit\, this is not true! A specific quantum algorithm (even a quantum adder) can have infinite quantum circuits that implement it! The Classiq Platform will generate an optimal quantum circuit for you\, according to your quantum algorithm and the available resources (like the number of qubits\, the circuit depth\, the hardware connectivity map\, etc.) \nJoin us for a hands-on workshop with Classiq and the Oxford Quantum Information Society. In the workshop\, we will discuss the Classiq Platform and quantum algorithm design. Then we will simply start using the platform\, hands-on\, and see how easy it could be to generate optimized circuits for complicated algorithms\, understand them\, and then run them on real hardware! \nCorpus Christi College Merton Street Oxford OX1 4JF

SUMMARY:Mothers Day - Don't Forget!
DESCRIPTION:Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family or individual\, as well as motherhood\, maternal bonds\, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world\, most commonly in the months of March or May. \nMothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent\, usually landing it sometime in March. Traditionally\, it is a day on which people visit the church they were baptised in and on which they honour their mother. Both Roman Catholic and Anglican churches in the UK observe Mothering Sunday. \nApart from the church-based activities of Mothering Sunday\, Mother’s Day is celebrated in ways similar to celebrations in the US\, Australia and elsewhere.
