SUMMARY:Unpacking the Paradox of the Perfection Trap
DESCRIPTION:Unpacking the Paradox of the Perfection Trap with speaker Thomas Curran. \nWe live in a society that continually broadcasts the need to want more\, from our personal to our working lives\, it incessantly promotes this idea of desire. And the way we achieve this goal? We must be perfect. \nWe’re also witnessing an alarming surge in burnout and depression. These record levels are caused by this perpetual strive for perfection\, we are stuck in a trap – but how can we escape it? \nJoin Thomas Curran as he explores the Paradox of the Perfection on everything from performance to social and financial inequality. He shows what we can do as individuals to resist the modern-day pressure to be perfect. \nDiscover what you need to prioritise\, meet the world where it is and strive for purpose instead of more by embracing the power of ‘good enough’ in your life. \nCopies of Thomas’ latest book ‘The Perfection Trap: The Power of Good Enough in a World That Always Wants More’ will be available to purchase from Amazon and all good bookstores. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent type\nThis is a livestream event where the speaker and audience come together online. \nYou will have priority access to the recorded video for two weeks after the event has taken place. \nAbout Thomas Curran \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThomas Curran is a British Psychological Society chartered social psychologist\, and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His primary area of expertise is the personality characteristic of perfectionism\, how it develops\, and how it impacts mental health. His most notable work is the theory of cultural influences on perfectionism\, which rose to especial prominence following a 2017 publication of the first systems-level cohort study to show that perfectionism is on the rise in American\, Canadian\, and British college students. \nHe is the author of over 30 published papers and book chapters on related topics and he has received numerous awards for his scholarship and research. Informed by his research and expertise in data analysis\, he has previously lectured to undergraduates in the UK and Australia. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTiming for the livestream\nThe live stream will go live at 6.55pm\, and the introduction will begin at 7.00pm. If you register but miss the live stream\, the video will be available to you via the same link for two weeks after the event date. \nhttps://www.rigb.org/whats-on/unpicking-paradox-perfection-trap

OxPropFest has become one of the largest property dinners outside London with many excellent reviews. \n\nCarbon Footprint\nIn the design and implementation of the awards\, we will strive to reduce the carbon footprint of this event. For example\, the decision on the location of the venue is in close proximity to public transport stations\, the use of digital ticketing in all aspects of event management\, the limited use of paper where possible\, the provenance of the food served and the design of the awards\, which will be made of recycled or sustainable materials. As the event approaches\, we will incorporate initiatives into the event.

SUMMARY:World Humanitarians Day
DESCRIPTION:World Humanitarians Day \nWhat is the history? \nOn 19 August 2003\, a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad\, Iraq\, killed 22 humanitarian aid workers\, including the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq\, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Five years later\, the General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 19 August as World Humanitarian Day (WHD). \nEach year\, WHD focuses on a theme\, bringing together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival\, well-being\, and dignity of people affected by crises\, and for the safety and security of aid workers. \nWHD is a campaign by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and humanitarian partners. \nWhat is the Theme for 2023? \nThis year\, our World Humanitarians Day campaign brings together the global humanitarian community to mark the twentieth anniversary of the attack on the UN headquarters in Baghdad\, Iraq. This shows our unwavering commitment to deliver for the communities we serve\, no matter who\, no matter where and #NoMatterWhat. \nHumanitarians have no other purpose than to save and protect lives and deliver the basic necessities of life\, they stand shoulder to shoulder with the communities they serve and bring hope. \nOn 19 August\, we come together to honour humanitarians around the world who strive to meet ever-growing global needs. No matter the danger or the hardship\, humanitarians venture deep into disaster-stricken regions and on the front lines of conflict\, strive to save and protect people in need.

SUMMARY:The Speaking Retreat
DESCRIPTION:About The Speaking Retreat \nDo you KNOW you have a message people should hear? \nDo you absolutely know that you can help other people – and you need to find the audiences who will listen to you? \nOr are you getting great feedback from your presentations at networking and business events – and want to learn how to find clients who will pay you to speak? \nOr maybe you’re already speaking\, and want to find more clients\, and better clients too? \nThis one day course – The Speaking Retreat\, delivered live to only eight attendees\, will help you develop your presentation skills and\, crucially\, show you how and where to find paid speaking gigs too. \nAre you already speaking – but not being paid? \nCreating your keynote\, the presentation you’ll be known for\, is just part of the process. There are thousands of amazing speakers out there who aren’t being paid! That’s why we’ll spend the second half of the day looking at the business of speaking\, and where and how to find the right clients for you\, willing to pay you to educate\, inspire and entertain their audience. \nHere’s what we’ll cover: \n– How to build your reputation and profile with the right people. \n– Ensuring that your audience know exactly what you stand for\, and why you’re the right speaker for their teams\, their event\, or their audience. \n– Let’s build a presentation for you which perfectly captures the messages you know your audience will benefit from. \n– We’ll take your audience on a journey from understanding the problem they need to solve\, to coming away at the end with the answers they need. \n– We’ll ensure that the people who book speakers know exactly what they’re getting when they book you\, and know exactly why they should book you. \n– It is a massive deal to put someone on stage for an annual conference or major event. So let’s help you to build the trust with your potential clients\, so that they have that trust in you which leads them to being confident to book you. \n– Then\, we’ll train you to deliver\, so that clients rave about you\, and more clients want to book you as a result. \n– I’ll show you how to make money by being paid to speak – and turning your presentation into other products too. \nYou see\, as well as being paid to deliver keynotes at conferences and events\, it is also perfectly possible to create courses\, workshops and other products from your knowledge\, that you can also be paid for. \nAs well as being a paid keynote speaker\, I also write books\, run retreats and workshops (like this one for example) and am paid to run training events for the companies I work for\, expanding on the issues I’ve touched on in my keynote. You’ll learn how to build the value around everything you do\, to get paid for everything you do. \nVirtual – opening up the world from your desk \nI have been paid for many virtual events over the last few years\, and that world is open to you too. \nSure\, they don’t pay as much as ‘real life’ events\, but to be able to speak to a captive and appreciative audience anywhere in the world\, and then 45 minutes later be able to come downstairs and make a cup of tea\, sure has some advantages over the travel and the time taken to get to face to face events. \nBuild your reputation as a virtual speaker\, and you’ll open up even more opportunities – and at times to suit you too. \nPromoting yourself – being your own agent \nLearn how to build your own PR and publicity\, putting yourself in front of the people who actually book speakers. You’ll find out exactly how I’ve been able to get booked by major multinational companies directly\, and not through an agent. \nBeing brilliant at what you do is one thing\, making sure that other people know about it and understanding how to turn that into paying clients\, is exactly how we’ll finish the workshop The Speaking Retreat.
